That was the title of a very catchy and popular song in 1987 from the band R.E.M. and it fairly well sums up the past six years of investment history. As you read this, we will have just surpassed the sixth anniversary of the bottom of one of the worst bear markets in history, which officially ended on March 9th 2009. The S&P 500 closed that day at 676, a decline of nearly 57% from its all-time high of 1,565 in October of 2007. As I write this on March 5, 2015, the S&P is trading at 2,100. That’s an increase of more than 210% from its bear market low, and an incredible 34% higher than the previous peak in October 2007. Further proof that patience is a retiree’s best friend when it comes to investing. Read the Spring 2015 Newsletter
